Hello fellow kombatants! I’ve been working on this character for some time and I recently finished, trying to make the character's story fit into the tales of MK9 right to the very end where we see the story of Mk4 beginning. However, I was planning to do a few drawings/sketches to show everyone how I envisioned this character but I might work on the drawings later on. Please rate and comment as it would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Hope you enjoy it!!!! :)

Name: Syphonius
Species: Demigod (Former Edenian)
Age: Around 10,000
Fighting Style: Salmantican
Weapon: Pair of kama sickles attached by long chain
Appearance: Wears an ocean blue vest on top with no sleeves, exposing his muscular arms. His pants are of the baggy samurai type with an orange koi fish motif on them. He carries his kamas at the sides of his torso, where the chain wraps around his waist like a belt.

Syphonius fighting style is extremely fluid and connects many of his attacks with the use of his chained kamas. He utilises the element of water and the ocean to decimate his enemies.

Special Moves
Water Blades – Syphonius smashes both kamas into the ground in front of him, sending two crescent shaped projectiles of highly pressurized water towards the enemy.
Rising Ocean – Syphonius throws one end of the chained kamas and grapples/wraps around the enemy at the waist. He pulls on the chain, spinning his opponent and causing a pillar of water to lift the opponent, temporally immobilizing his rival. The pillar of water has similar effects to Kitana’s fan lift.
Aqua Dimension – Syphonius spins his weapon around, causing a vortex of water to envelope him, which results in teleporting behind the opponent.
Approaching Wave – Syphonius throws one end of the chained kamas and the flying kama spins as it approaches the opponent, pushing his rival back. The closer the enemy is, the more spins hit the opponent, causing greater damage.
Marine Slashes – Syphonius grapples the enemy with one end of his chained kamas at the waist and pulls the opponent towards him. He then spins one end of his weapon in front of his enemy, slashing away at their body 3 consecutive times with the 4th hit launching the enemy into the air, acting as a popup.
Tsunami Slam – Syphonius grapples the opponent’s legs with his weapon and slams the opponent overhead behind him on the ground, finishing with another slam to the ground at the position the opponent was originally. The direction of the slam is similar to the enhanced version of Ermac’s telekinetic slam
Chaining Typhoon – Syphonius jumps into the air with the chaining sickles spinning/circling in a fast vortex around him and lands closer to his opponent. Great follow up attack to either Rising Ocean or Marine Slashes, as well against an opponent who loves to jump a lot.

X-ray – Syphonius initiates the x-ray attack by sending both kama ends of the chain towards each side of the screen and acts as an unblockable grab. The only way to avoid the x-ray is to jump into the air when it is initiated. If landed, Syphonius pulls in his opponent and does an uprising knee to the lower jaw, crushing the jaw bone and causing some teeth to shatter/break. After, Syphonius jumps into the air, flips over and lands behind his opponent. As he lands, he stabs one of the kamas into the enemy’s upper back, causing internal damage. To finish, Syphonius pulls on the impaled kama, causing it to slice down the opponent’s back.

Fatalities
Neck Fountain – Syphonius places his hand over the opponent’s mouth, filling them with water from the inside. He then wraps one end of the chained kamas around their neck and jumps/flips over their opponent, landing behind them. As he lands, he pulls his weapon to decapitate his enemy where after a large fountain of blood and water gush out of the opponent’s neck.
Chaining Blades of the Abyss – Syphonius spins one end of his weapon in a figure 8 fashion at the opponent, cutting off the arms into 4 pieces, twice at the elbow points and then again twice at the shoulder points. He then takes both kamas and impales them into his opponent, one in the neck and the other at the waist. He holds onto the middle part of the chain and pulls the weapon towards him, causing the impaled kamas to decapitate and separate the legs from the torso.

Just as a quick note, you may like to listen to this song while reading the bio in the next two posts, as it gives a mystical edenian feeling to it:

Bio: Part 1

Long ago, before the realm was invaded by the forces of Shao Kahn, the many residents of Edenia lived in peaceful harmony. There were many clans, each with their own respective region, one of which existed on the island of Salmantica. The Salmanticans were people of the sea, being master fishermen and sailors of numerous different vessels. The many warriors of Salmantica were also able to manipulate the element of water and use it to their abilities. It was quite a sight to behold when viewing a Salmantican warrior in battle as they moved with such incredible fluidity, like a continuous, flowing river, and being able to chain their techniques from their style of martial arts with incredible ease. Among the many great warriors, one was considered to be truly exceptional. His name was Syphonius.

Syphonius was a young, brave warrior who in time became a master martial artist. His weapon of choice was a pair of bladed Japanese-style sickles which were connected together by a long chain. As well, he was able to conjure and manipulate the power of the ocean, where his potential reached even to the point that he could cause tidal waves of water to come crashing down on his enemies. Once achieving this skill, he reached the point of spiritual insight and was seen as a deity of water amongst his people. His younger brother, Oceanus, always looked up to his brother and there was always a strong bond of brotherhood between them. They trained together for countless hours, always striving to further improve their skills in the Salmantican way of combat. Together, the two warriors of the sea were a force to be reckoned with.

Many times, Syphonius and Oceanus sailed to the mainland where they would sell unique fish with his brother as they were not only warriors, but accomplished fishermen as well. The fish caught were of a unique variety and were only found near the coasts of Salmantica. However, one day, when Syphonius and his brother would make another trip to the mainland, they would have a much more different encounter than usual. As they made port, they heard word from the local residents that a small tournament was being held in order to determine which warriors would participate in the next Mortal Kombat tournament against the legions of Shao Kahn. Both brothers took note of this and quickly rushed over to the palace to view the different warriors as to who would be chosen to compete. Syphonius never was a big competitor and never really thought much of the whole concept of the Mortal Kombat tournament, believing that if any should try to attack and invade his homeland, he would be ready to defend it regardless. However, Oceanus loved tournaments and always enjoyed taking part in them. In turn, as much as Syphonius never really took note of these competitions, he respected his brother’s viewpoints for competition and was eager to allow him to take part in this contest of combat.

Being held in the courtyard of King Jerrod’s palace, many powerful warriors competed against each other to prove who possessed the greater skill and training, both physically and spiritually. Oceanus proved to be a formidable fighter, defeating many of his opponents. However, one kombatant proved to be quite a match for Oceanus. Her name was Jade. Master of the staff and able to avoid most of Oceanus’ water based techniques, she quickly proved to be the better warrior. Although defeated, Oceanus felt in a way honoured to lose for the first time and at the same time, Jade was equally intrigued by Oceanus’ fighting style being so fluid, as it was the first time she ever fought a Salmantican. Immediately after the match, Oceanus mentioned that his brother was an even greater warrior than himself and that Syphonius was the warrior that understood the true spirit of their martial art. In turn, King Jerrod was also intrigued as well and asked if Syphonius would partake in the tournament. Syphonius expressed his opinion but agreed to engage in a match against Jade to demonstrate the way of combat from his homeland.

Moving like the tide of the ocean, Syphonius easily demonstrated the fluidity in his techniques and was able to overcome Jade in a very short manner of time. Amazed by such martial skill, King Jerrod insisted that he take part in the Mortal Kombat tournament. However, Syphonius declined the request and instead promised King Jerrod that should Edenia be invaded, he would help defend the realm, believing that the power over the element of water that he wielded would be enough to drive back any invading force. Respecting the bold warrior’s opinion, King Jerrod was honoured to have such a powerful combatant among his ranks, even if he was not to participate in the coming Mortal Kombat tournament.

However, King Jerrod was not the only one who took a strong liking to Syphonius’ personality and stature. Jade was instantly awestruck at the technique that Syphonius’ possessed during their match together and afterwards, felt a different liking towards him. She had never really expressed her feelings towards another man before and she felt a strong connection of peace and happiness when Syphonius was near her. The following night, Jade went to find him near the port, knowing that Syphonius would stay more than a few days when he traveled to the mainland. She found him meditating on the beach and came to sit beside him. When Syphonius revived from his meditation, he was surprised to see Jade next to her, but also felt the same emotions that Jade was feeling. It was clear that they were meant to be together and that each had found love, expressing their feelings for one another.

When Syphonius and his brother had to return back to Salmantica, Jade wanted to come along and asked permission from King Jerrod if she could accompany the bold warrior. The king was more than grateful to allow her and even asked Jade to also learn some of the ways of the Salmanticans, where Syphonius was eager to teach her some of the techniques from his island homeland. Once they returned, they were inseparable and their love bloomed even greater. During the time Jade spent on the island, she learned many techniques as well as adapting a new weapon. The weapon was a three pointed star-like blade that acted as a boomerang, crafted by Oceanus, since he was also a blacksmith, and polished by Syphonius. After giving the blade its true shine, he fashioned a beautiful jade stone in the middle that glowed with a deep gleam and emanated a strong glow of energy that Syphonius had imbued into the stone.

Before Jade left to return to the mainland, he told Syphonius that she was one of the chosen warriors to participate in the coming Mortal Kombat tournament and that she felt an unease as to whether they would see each other again. However, their bond of love was truly great and Syphonius promised that they would communicate with each other spiritually, as he taught her how to do this through meditation. As she left the island, Syphonius meditated on the beach for the duration of Jade’s journey back to the mainland, in order to calm the sea and ensure her a safe travel back home. Now, both would communicate spiritually and would visit in each other’s dreams. However, fate and destiny would take a change for the worst.

Bio: Part 2

One day, as Syphonius was meditating on the beach as usual, he felt that he could no longer establish a connection between them. Spending nearly 3 days and 3 nights trying to connect with Jade, his perseverance would lead him nowhere. Worried, he immediately decided to travel to the mainland to talk to King Jerrod and see if he could discover Jade’s whereabouts. However, when he arrived King Jerrod was nowhere to be found. Instead, he was able to speak with Kitana, princess of Edenia and the daughter of King Jerrod. Kitana told Syphonius that King Jerrod was overlooking his warriors in the Mortal Kombat tournament himself and that he was not within the realm. Explaining his inability to connect with Jade, Syphonius became worried that some sort of injustice was occurring and now Kitana was becoming worried as well for both Jade and her father.

Just as the two finished their discussion, King Jerrod appeared before them, extremely bruised and beaten. He told both Syphonius and Kitana that they had lost the last Mortal Kombat tournament and now, Shao Kahn’s demon legions would invade Edenia. Syphonius, deeply upset at the loss, insisted that he knew what had happened to Jade. King Jerrod exclaimed in sadness that she was defeated in the tournament, but instead of being killed, she was taken away by Shao Kahn’s generals and never saw her again after that. Deeply angered and confused, Syphonius rushed back to the port to return to Salmantica and prepare for battle. As he began to sail, he noticed a storm forming in the sky and a portal beginning to open. Further sailing away he saw the land go up in flames with all a manner of distant cries of horror in the distance and began to worry about his own homeland. Making his way to Salmantica, the island had already been in chaos. As Syphonius arrived, battles ensued among the warriors of the island against all manner of demons and denizens from the realm of Outworld.

Preparing for battle, Syphonius began to engage in deadly combat with all enemies he encountered, using his chained pair of sickles to annihilate the demonic invaders. During the grand scale battle, Syphonius looked to find his brother. He was seen engaging a large malevolent Centaurian, a race of creatures that only legend would speak of. Even though Oceanus was a formidable warrior, he was no match for the brutal tactics of the centaurian. Tossing his weapon aside, the four legged demon picked up Oceanus and shouted a war cry “WITHOUT YOUR WEAPONS, YOU ARE NO MATCH FOR RENTAURUS”. With those words, Rentaurus impaled Oceanus with his metallic tail through the neck, decapitating the warrior and ripping the arms off his corpse with his bare hands. Shocked at the sight before his eyes, Syphonius instantly engaged the centaurian in mortal kombat and used his techniques to overcome the demonic entity. Equipped with his chained sickles, he spun his weapon in a volley of attacks, destroying the armour that protected Rentaurus. In turn, Syphonius’ weapon proved too deadly, wearing down the enemy and resulted in the bold warrior slashing off the demon’s monstrous tail.

As Syphonius prepared to finish off his opponent, Rentaurus let out an evil chuckle and told Syphonius that Jade had become part of the enemy, betraying her homeland. Feeling anguish and sorrow for the inability to reconnect with Jade, he did not know what to believe anymore. Regardless, the time called to avenge his brother’s death and with Rentaurus’ last remarks, Syphonius placed his hand over the demon’s mouth, causing water to flow and fill into the centaurian’s body. As the monstrosity began to drown from the inside, Syphonius threw one of the attached sickles from his weapon and wrapped it around the demon’s neck. He flipped into the air over the four-legged being and as the warrior landed, he pulled the head of Rentaurus clean off with a gigantic fountain mixture of blood and water spraying from the creature’s neck.

As the corpse of Rentaurus lay dead, Syphonius looked around and saw the chaos that had been done by Shao Kahn’s forces. His comrades and people were all dead, including his brother, and his spiritual connection of love with Jade had been lost. Syphonius’ spirit as a warrior had diminished completely feeling the emotions of complete failure to his people, his home and the realm of Edenia. As there was nothing left of Salmantica except destruction and carnage, the ever growing hordes of the invaders made their way to envelope and overcome the final warrior that remained. With all his might, Syphonius summoned the ocean to his will before the gruesome beasts that were rushing to obliterate the Salmantican. In a final act of valor and audacity, Syphonius formed a series of gargantuan tidal waves from the surrounding ocean and manipulated them to flood Salmantica, taking him and the demons sent by Shao Kahn with it, into the sea.

Believed to have died, Syphonius was not heard of for a long time. However, his last stand did not result in his full death surprisingly and after Edenia was merged with Outworld, Syphonius could be found residing in the shadows of the wastelands. He would appear as a spirit walking along the shores from time to time, forever trying to meditate and reconnect with Jade, as well as continually trying to eliminate the deep pain and anguish of failing to protect his people. As the events of the first 2 Mortal Kombat tournaments involving Earthrealm unfolded, Syphonius remained in solitude. It was not until the demise of Shao Kahn after his invasion of Earthrealm would Syphonius return to amongst the living and no longer live in seclusion.

Even in his spiritual form, Syphonius would still try many times to reconnect with Jade. However it seemed that there was no hope and the fallen Salmantican felt as if he was forced to live this unbearable pain. He was instead finally approached by Fujin, the God of Wind. The god had learned of the warrior through Kitana and Fujin had intended to find the fallen warrior as he required his aid. Syphonius learns that Jade was possessed by a dark spirit and made into an assassin for Shao Kahn at the time. After Jade overpowered the spirit that possessed her and regained her former self, she was unable to attain all memories from before and that the connection between her and Syphonius no longer existed. Fujin explained that Shao Kahn had been defeated by the forces of Earthrealm, but now a new threat emerged that challenged all the realms. This threat came from the Netherrealm, at the dark and malevolent hands of Lord Shinnok and the necromancer Quan Chi.

Fujin restores Syphonius to his former self, but now with the status of a true god of water, making him even more powerful and wise than before. Fujin promises to reunite Syphonius with Jade in order so they can revive their love for one another, since they both believe that Jade should be able remember him when she will view the Salmantican. In turn, Syphonius is more than grateful to offer his help in the fight against the Netherrealm and sees this as the opportunity to restore his honor as a true warrior and to his people. Now the god of wind and the new god of water journey to Earthrealm to face the fiendish legions of the Netherrealm.

Tenkai, I don't really know what to say.

That was ****ing amazing!

I love that you connected Jade's boomerang with Oceanus!

Also I'm very interested in his design. It sounds very promising, like something out of Onimusha.
Hurry up with your drawing ;)

Bro, Im soooooo glad you enjoyed it!!!! It took me a solid 5 hours to compose everything I wrote above and the only upsetting part about this is that nearly no one else really takes the time to enjoy this. Like we said before, their loss really:P Ill try to work on the drawing as soon as I can ;) Again, Im really happy you liked it!!!

Wow I'm really impressed.
Took me a while to finish reading XD, I really enjoed the bio and I love the fatalitites you described :D
Can't wait to see a drawing.

Dude, this character rockz !!! You know how boon and them are so crazy that they are the only one who actually listen to the good ideas of their fans and actually put fans wants in their games. You never know. I'm really into the story of MK. I think besides fatalities, this is what really separates it from other fighting games. The story is soo rich and deep and you can go in a million ways with it. This is why an MMO is mandatory for this game. I love MKMythologies and Shaolin Monks cuz of the stories they told. His story totally fits you're right. I thought that he could have been one of the warriors inside of Ermac or something. Again, Awesome story, 10 out of 10 for me.

Imagine a TV show like MK Konquest that that has like 20 episodes per season, and all the stories are of different people from different times in the MK universe. You can go from this story, to how Shinnok became a fallen elder god, to Sub-Zero's birth/youth, or Scorpion as a father. How about the story of the brothers, Raiden and Kahn ! Or Shang Tsung back when he was fighting for earth realm and being trained by Bo Rai Cho. We could see his eagerness and growing desire for power. How about the story of how Kahn took Outworld from the Dragon King ! I mean it's endless ......

I couldnt agree with you more man, the story is one of the main things that always keeps me hooked onto MK. As well, it would be a dream come true if Syphonius actually made it into an MK game. Im glad you enjoyed man!!!!!! :)

Good job, and a very interesting character. If I could give you rep, I would because you obviously put a huge amount of time and effort coming up with a strory and different moves. Also, I liked how you tied in other characters into Syphonius' story. Very good.

Same here!

MK's story is what keeps me interested in the game.
I think Syphonius would be a great addition.

We need more oriental themed characters.

Thank you sooooo much for your feedback!!!! To be honest, Im not all that crazy to receive rep from people as much as I would rather enjoy the more poeple reading and enjoying the story and receiving their feedback. It can feel a little pointless at times of putting so much time and effort to come up with these stories and only have a handful of people reading them. Im sincerely glad you took the time to read this and enjoy it for what it is. Thanks again!! :)

p.s. If youd like, I also wrote three other stories regarding rebuilt origin tales of Hotaru, Havik, and Dairou. As well back, back, back, low punch also wrote two for Kai and Shujinko. Here are the threads if your interested (This is for the Dairou story, but all the other links are in this thread): http://www.trmk.org/forums/showthread.php/17156-Rebuilding-Dairou

I know right!!!!! And is just me, or have there been no actual male fighters from Edenia that have actually been playable? Technically now, King Jerrod is playable in the sense that he is one of the souls within Ermac, but I would say that doesnt really count...

It was an excellent reading, I really enjoyed it. You are very talented Tenkai :top:
The bio is very detailed and the fatalities sounds awesome. The way you tale things up kept my curiosity active from the beggining to the end.
+rep

I don't think I caught the reference :(

What was it?

EDIT: I think I found it.

"Without your weapons, you are no match. . ."

Can't believe I didn't catch that before
