Secret Kharacters question

If I fight a secret kharacter and beat them, do I unlock them? I fought secret Smoke and beat him, but nothing happened. What is the point of these fights?
 
They are just throwbacks to the original MK secret fights. Reptile=MK1, Noob=MK2/UMK3 Jade=MK2, and Smoke=MK2.
 
nope, from what i've seen personally so far, just get Koins (and trophy/achievement) for beating them, like Reptikhan said, they are just there for nostalgia trips.
