Character Relationships In Battles?

So beyond the Story Mode there have never been relationships beyond the story in Mortal Kombat. One of the things MvC3 does is have character specific dialogue before battles and character specific win quotes.

Do you think it would work for MK?

Example:

Scorpion comes in with an animation and says, "I killed you and avenged my family. What are you?"

Sub-Zero retaliates, "I am not the Sub-Zero you murdered in cold blood. Prepare yourself for a second death!"

And then have a win quote for whoever wins.

Scorpion after he lands in Hell, "Lin Kuei scum, your reasons for fighting me do not matter. You asked for death as do all who stand before me"

Sub-Zero after freezing the screen, "Your death was the sacrifice that will bring peace to my brother's soul. Rest now, Bi-Han, you are avenged."

I know things like this happen in Story Mode but I think it would be cool in Versus or Ladder as well.

And I know you say it would get boring after the first few times but so do all intros (unless you are me, lol), but that's why they are skipable.

What do you guys think?

I was actually thinking about this before...and I think it'd be awesome if they did it that way. It'd definitely be cool, as long as they wouldn't be super long, and people could skip through 'em IF they want to.
 
Yeah, length was something I was thinking about. I think it would be especially awesome after a fatality.

Think; Sub-Zero after defeating Sektor, "I hate to kill a brother, but your existence was lifeless. Your eternal battle is over now."

And by brother I mean Lin Kuei, not blood.
 
Even if this were just in story mode, it would be a pretty cool addition, and add some extra subtext to the match.

Oh arena based relationship additions. That would be cool.

Shang Tsung in his throne room, "Welcome to my humble abode, tonight we will be serving your soul as the main course!"

Win quote, "Bon appetit, YOUR SOUL IS MINE!"

(not really being serious with that one, just thought it would be funny.)
 
This should be something that MK should have. Doesn't seem like it's in the final game, but if they make tweaks to the game later on that adds dialogue for this then that would be awesome. Those same intros and win poses do get boring pretty quickly...

Well I read somewhere that there are a couple different intros and win poses, but I'll believe it when I see it...

To me though just done different dialogue would be great.

Every JC line would be a cheesy one-liner and I'd love it. I'd like to see the "$500 sunglasses" quip make a return during a Goro fight.
 
If its one thing I love about fighting games is the intros.. They should get you pumped to kick some ass!!!
I would love kharacter specific intros/outros!!!!

Yeah, this was a pretty cool feature in MvC3. I laughed so much the first time I played deadpool vs Ryu and he was like "OMG I LOVE STREETFIGHTER! Will you sign my spleen?" Its also cool that when you build certain tag teams they have different intros, like build a tag team out of Avengers and Captain America does the "Avengers Assemble!" battlecry as the intro.
 
Nah i would just end up skipping through them. I always preferred the simple winning pose without them talking like in the old games it gave them a mysterious feeling to the character kinda hard to explain, then after they added dialogue in the intros i thought it was lame just my opinion. BTW your avatar reminds me of the helghast from killzone.

My avatar? Yeah kinda, lol. But that's interesting, never really thought about the mystery aspect of it. I just think there are all these great story elements and character relationships that could be fleshed out or put to use in character intros and win quotes.
 
Don't agree with the "mystery" part. Even considering something as well done as Kitana's win pose, I'm going to get tired of the same "mystery" after seeing her wink 30 times in a row. Character relationships should definitely be incorporated into every MK mode, not just the story mode. Something as simple as Kitana facing Mileena and saying, "You are a monster, you are nothing like me!" would add so much personality to the arcade experience.

When I was younger and used to play MK2 and UMK3, I always got into my character's head. It made the game so much more exciting. I want that feeling again with this reinstallment. I want the battle to feel personal. I want to feel like I'm fighting my life's rival, not a generic AI opponent.

There are definitly character relationships in MK9. Remember all the dialogs from the videos?

Scorpion: You are not Sub-Zero!
Subby: I am his family and clan!

I think it is part of the story mode but I think that there could be different intros. I can't hear no more "This fight will be your last" just even because of MK Demo =D
