MORTAL KOMBAT: SONGS INSPIRED BY THE WARRIORS
TURNS THE VOLUME UP ON APRIL 5

Soundtrack Executive Produced by JFK of MSTRKRFT/Death From Above 1979

Burbank, CA (March 24, 2011) - WaterTower Music and Teenage Riot Records have unveiled the details of the album Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors. This collection of electronic music inspired by the upcoming Mortal Kombat game is being executive produced by JFK (of the DJ/ production duo MSTRKRFT and Death From Above 1979) and is set for release April 5th.

JFK has assembled a spectacular group of DJs and producers to continue the tradition of weaving electronic music into the Mortal Kombat aesthetic. He enthusiastically describes the project, saying "It's always exciting to have the opportunity to write music for something outside of the traditional means, especially when it is for a project like Mortal Kombat that has had such pop cultural significance for so long. It’s a great step forward for the ways that video games can interact with music across unique genres and mediums."

That same excitement has been echoed by the artists who are contributing to the project. "I've been a Mortal Kombat fan since Mortal Kombat 2 came out on Sega Genesis. This was completely a passion project for me, and I'm so honored to be a part of the Mortal Kombat legacy!" declares glitch-step wunderkind Skrillex, who contributes “Reptile’s Theme” to the project.

Celebrated producer Harvard Bass, who recorded “Helado (Sub-Zero’s Theme)” for the collection, adds emphatically "When I found out I was going to work on music for Mortal Kombat, I almost lost it. I've been a huge fan of the game and it was a privilege to be a part of video game history." And DJ and producer Congorock says “Mortal Kombat has shocked me since the first time I played it…for the album I went for something more atmospheric and less clubby, but still it feels like a dream coming true.”

I really liked it! There were some good songs, but my Favorite from the CD has to Barakas

Re: Contest: Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired By The Warriors

What little bits we've heard of Reptile's theme is awesome. I think I'll have to pick that.

Pat,
Will the MP3's be available on iTunes, on April 5th, as well???

I just got a $40 gift card for iTunes, and I'd like to put it to good use. ;-)

EDIT:
Thanks for the info Pat. :)

OT: My favorite has to still be Mileena's Theme by Tokimonsta.
I've been hooked ever since I saw her Vignette. "Let's dance."

Yes it will be on iTunes as well. Now don't forget to edit your post to put your favorite song for the sampler contest. ;)

Exclude me from the contest but the Skrillex Reptile isnt just the best track on here, its the best track ive heard all year long, period. That track is HOT.

I agree with Tim Static, Skrillex's Reptile Theme is not only the best track on the album, its one of the best tracks ive ever heard anywhere. ever. O_O (but DONT exclude me from the contest haha)

For me It's a cross between baraka's and reptiles, baraka's is high on atmosphere and is my favourite dubstep song ever, but it does tend to repeat a little to much, Reptiles on the other hand is more of a straight music track and bashes out one hell of a beat.

However, my favourite has to be reptiles theme, it's just so damn good! the beat is intense and mixes up throughout the song, skrillex really made something that really does fit the character of reptile but also manages to churn out a great club track in the process, Unlike baraka's which is more for atmosphere and dubstep fans, reptiles can be enjoyed by anyone who likes a good tune. *goes to listen to reptiles theme once again* so damn awesome!

Here's what the cards look like. I'm adding it to the story now.

Holy ass. Kano's is absolutely horrible. Sounds like a remixed Village People song.

I shan't participate in the contest simply because I'm not really feeling any of those songs. Someone else will enjoy it more than I.

wow ok, just listened to Baraka's Theme, now I see why everyone is so torn between Reptile's track and Baraka's track, the whole album is sick, but Reptile's track and Baraka's track are both very fitting to the characters personality O_O the whole album is pretty incredible... haha but I stick with my first choice, Reptile's track is my fav. ^_^

Reptile's, hands down. I've never had a piece of music make me dance like that! :)

I'll have to go with
3. Helado (Sub-Zero's Theme) - Harvard Bass
as my favorite, I feel like it really captures Sub-Zero's essence - mystical and powerful, you can *hear* the chill in the notes.

Reptile's Theme by Skrillex is a very close 2nd though, it has a different feel than the rest of the album and Skrillex is just, let's face it, awesome :D

Definitely either Reptile or Mileena, Reptiles because its made by Skrillex, FREAKING SKRILLEX!!!! If Skrillex made it, its automatically eldergod-like :p As for Mileena, it just suits her so well cause it has this smooth, relaxing, seductive feeling, but at the same time feels dark, and evil; just compliments her so well!

A few people are saying that they like Baraka's theme. I think it's only ok, IMO. Reptile or Liu Kang's is my fav. But since Kang's whole one has already been listened to, I'm saying Reptile's is my fav so far.

EDIT: I tried doing the worm to Reptile's theme. I may have given myself a concussion

Also, Kahn's theme is a pretty good one 2.
