After seeing Liu Kang constantly getting shunned for his "boring" storyline, I decided to make my own story for him. I also recommend that you check out Rebuilding Hotaru, Rebuilding Havik, and Rebuilding Kai.
As an orphan, Liu Kang always wondered about his past, being a respectful monk however, he never questioned the Abbot, the only one who knows the truth. The week before Liu is to take the boat for Shang Tsung's island, Shujinko, who happens to be the Abbot, thought it was time for Liu to know:
Shujinko told Liu about his daughter, Kaida, who many years ago, was in love with a man from Outworld named Dairou. The man had a mysterious look about him, the reason being Dairou was from a secret assassin cult in Outworld. Shujinko forbid their love affair, but to no avail. They bared a child, not long after however, they were assassinated by a man from a rival clan. A man named Tenkai Hayabusa, codenamed Smoke.
Shujinko took the abandoned child into his temple, he was shocked to see this boy's unrivaled speed, tremendous strikes, and ability to focus better than any mere man. He knew he possessed his daughter's ferocity and determination. Shujinko was proud to see his daughter live on through her son.
Liu Kang was shocked, he didn't know how to react. He was grateful to Shujinko for saving him, but was angered for keeping it to himself. He went through his whole life thinking nobody was there for him, when his grandfather was with him the whole time.
That night Liu couldn't sleep, tossing and turning he was swarmed by the thought of his parents. All of a sudden a shadowy figure appeared in the doorway. Liu jumped up and the figure disappeared, dropping something. Liu picked up the object which happened to be an enclosed letter.
It was from his father. Dating back before his death, Liu couldn't believe his eyes. The letter said how Dairou knew the assassin was looking for him, how much he regrets not meeting his son, and how he wanted his son to fight for Outworld, to bring his family name to honor once again. The letter also mentioned how the assassin Smoke, was rumored to fight in the Mortal Kombat tournament.
ALTERNATE ENDINGS:
Liu enters the tournament on Outworld's behalf. Shujinko is forced to enter for the hope of Earthrealm. Liu Kang must face the man he betrayed, the man who saved and raised him, his relative and mentor. How can he defeat a warrior he can't even look in the eyes?
Liu enters the tournament on Earthrealm's behalf and upon arriving at the island, he sees Shang Tsung. Before his very eyes, Shang changes his appearance to Dairou. Liu is stunned by the sight. How could he possibly defeat the man who knows his every secret?
Thats all I got for now lol. I kind of winged it with the endings. Which one do you like better?
