For years fighting game fans wanted a Mortal Kombat game at the biggest fighting game tournament in the world the Evolution Championship Series (aka Evo). The last few entries into the Mortal Kombat series were not allowed for various reasons, but appears this year that streak will end.

According to a Google Cache of a leaked draft of the Evo 2011 Registration Page, it is confirmed that Mortal Kombat (2011) is in fact on the list of games for this year's EVO World Finals tournament.

The EVO World Finals will take place at the Rio in Las Vegas the weekend of July 29-31 2011. Word is this news will be officially unveiled tonight on Shoryuken.com. Also keep an eye out for when registration opens on the official Evo 2011 website and also check out the various Evo 2011 Season Events for events closer to your home. Who is ready to battle against the best players in the world at Mortal Kombat?

Thanks to reader Eclipso for the heads up!

Update 1:30pm CST: We were asked nicely to take down the image and the link to the Google Cache of the registration page. Despite this, the game is still confirmed for EVO World Finals 2011. Tune into the live broadcast of Wakeup, Shoryuken for the official announcement tonight at 9:30pm EST. We will update this story once the announcement is made tonight with any new details it tells us.

Update 9:05pm CST: As we noted earlier, Mortal Kombat (2011) was just confirmed to be at the EVO World Finals 2011 on the Wakeup, Shoryuken podcast. They said they have been talking to developers at NetherRealm Studios to get the game into the Tournament. It hasn't been decided that you can do two on two tournament at this time, and you wont be able to use the console exclusive character Kratos in the tournament without being banned.

Registration for the event should be up on the Official Evo 2011 website within a few days.
