3 Months from release, yet so much info is missing

I'm sure this is beating a dead horse, but I know this is not normal. Specially with the way Netherrealm studios has given out their info. It's consistent. Think of it like a movie release

---Teaser trailer-------------------teaser trailer 2----------------------------------------------------------------Full trailer---tons of pics---tons of ads---tons of info---commercial ads---release

the hyphons between them represent the time between release. Obviously not entirely accurate or to scale, but the principle of "leading up to" is their, and has been that way for gaming for decades. So why is it now MK is inconsistent?

Back in E3 of 2010, we got LOADS of information, gameplay videos, commentaries. Then we went to Pax 2010...and it was pretty much identical to E3. More gameplay videos, not much new announced. The game was just under a years away from release at that point. So it's pretty normal the amount of info we received.

We are now in 2011, and still no definitive release date is set for the game, despite it being announced for April. Also, ontop of the lack of release date, info coming out of nether studios and employees is next to nothing. We are getting basic wallpapers and pictures. The most info we have gotten has been LEAKED by mistake on the website and saved by the users.

So what gives? For a game that's so hyped up as MK9, i'd expect a little more information by now considering it's 90 days away (give or take a few) from release.

They've yet to confirm OFFICIALLY over half the roster, gameplay vids are scarce to come by. Raiden was announced over a half a year ago and a single gameplay video of him is yet to be seen.

I'm all for secrecy in Mortal Kombat, it's been the games coolest thing since inception, of finding all the hints, but this is mildly overboard now. It's sad to the point people try to decipher the outline of SZ's body widget and say "it's noob! not SZ!!!on1!!!". and trying to see Lui Kangs shadow. Guess what, it's 110% chance Lui's in it, so no point in "looking for the shadow!!" ... but we do it anyways cause we've gotten NO info lately.

I used to work for Day of Defeat (halflife mod before Valve bought the rights) and i'll tell you one thing, from a game dev stand point, it's usually a bad sign when there's this much lack of information and gameplay videos/ss's. Let alone announcements for BASIC characters that are guaranteed to be in the game.

Also, the "noob saibot widget"... it's a template image for a ninja, there must always be a template for things like this, specially considering the game has many ninjas.

Either way, I think NRS is dropping the ball on information the last while. Kinda makes me think "what could possibly be going wrong they haven't been able to show gameplay for already announced characters, and won't announce over half the roster?"

but just my 2 cents, dead horse is dead

Like stated previously, Maybe they're trying to save some information for closer to release to get every one super excited and pump for the game. maybe they're still working on things and they're trying to be sparring with content. Maybe they want that wow factor to hit us when we play instead of knowing whats coming. I mean there's tons of logical explainations for the reason they releasing less content, whether they be bad or good. To be honest just be a little more patient and I'm sure everyone will be happy. You can't say everything is final since there is only 3 months left, they're not showing anything new because they don't have anything, they're being slow because there is problems with the game. Some companies just like to make people wait, it causes more hype for the game. 3 months is plenty of time fore redoing and revelation. Whats the excitement if the whole roster and every single part of the content within the game is revealed at one time or a short period time. I'm as excited for the game to come and to learn more content, but video games have always been a long waiting process and being patient is something that always pays off.

I can tell you for a FACT being in the game development industry myself, 3 months isn't time to "redo" and "revelate" the game at all.. They actually only have 2 months left to go Gold with the game. Which means send out the final firmware for print. In 60 days, it's 100% all QA testing. meaning the game is done, and is in testing now (balance, bugs, major exploits and quality assurance, and system spec testing) ..

If the game is not finished right now (as of today) and in QA, u wont see it in April. but I do think it is, they just refuse to show anything, which i dont understand

Whether they have time to redo or not, they still have plent of time to reveal content. So the best bet is that they're trying to withold content right now, so they have plenty to show near release which will allow for a lot more hype towards the game. So being patient is the best option right now.

I agree that there could be a number of reasons why we are getting very little information and details on the game. But, I think they really want us to be surprised. If you remember they initially told us that the game is devoted to recapturing elements of the old 2d games that were the heart of MK. I think that everything we have seen is to prove that the old school key elements are there. However, I think that the changes in the story and all the other new details are what they are really trying to hold on to. I mean think about when the first MK's were new, we didn't know what to expect. To summarize my point they are ultimately trying to balance giving us the core MK experience we all loved, while also presenting a new game to us.

Exactly :D

They still have plenty of time to put out all the info they wish to reveal before the game comes out. It may seem like it's slower than usual, or that there's less info released this time around in comparison to the past games with Midway, but it's all in good reason. They want the whole experience to seem fresh when we get our hands on it come April. With the past 2-3 games, they have released everything months in advance, including countless gameplay videos etc. from a playable version to the public at e3 the year of release, and by the time the game comes out we know everything and have atalked everything to death. This time however, there's still half a game or so to still be revealed, which means less of it will be boring and over analyzed come game time. I mean...I can't possibly be the only one who feels the game is boring soon after getting it due to all the info being released months in advance and coming on sites like this to talk about it day in and day out.

If anything, everyone should be happy in knowing that in the next 3 months leading up to the release, we are done with any sort of drought of info. From here on out, we'll be getting info each and every week at least, and we should be getting some big reveals and coverage over the game. This 3 months should be a piece of cake.

Also, another thing to understand, is it this game is in no trouble of not being known about. Ever since it's debut at E3 last year, the reception for this game has been phenomenal. I have yet to see a bad impression from it on any game site I frequent. From old fans, present fans, or new fans alike, as well as people who have given up on the series, this game has turned heads for all the right reasons. It has all the hype and publicity it needs to make a big enough splash to become a big deal again. So the more info they wait to reveal, the more excitement will build just in time for the release. As long as NRS delivers the best MK game to date, or at least one that can live up to being a great fighter again that represents the old MK essense, it has nothing to worry about.

There's a lot of people who have complained about WB's marketing strategy and lack of info thus far, but all signs point to them knowing what they are doing. They publish quality games, and I think they expect no less from MK. They know they have a popular long running series that was in it's downward fade, and they are doing what it takes to make it rise to the top. The big thing, is the funding and allowing NRS the amount of time necessary to make the game they can, rather than Midway's rush out the door tactic.

Would it matter in the end if you were dead xD

YES! My spirit will not be at peace! I will be forced to walk the Earth as a ghost.

Then again, I can always fly into Ed Boon's MK factory and get all the information I need.

Yeah, that's right... I'll get you guys all of the exclusives.

I agree totally, at this point I am slightly turned off. I dont want to know and see everything but I do think that we should have more character information even if its just for the "revealed" characters up to this point. They are dragging it out too much IMO.

If everything isn't fit to how you want it, you could haunt and scare him into making it so :p

I'm not sure how MK fans would handle that.

For starters, Mileena wouldn't look like such a whore. That's -500 points from the raging heterosexual males... Which is 90% of the fan base.

Please do. I don't really care, but I think the female characters would benefit far more if they actually dressed appropriately to their personality. Mileena looking like a slut may fit, but someone like Sonya should not be wearing high heels, no bra, and no undershirt. Sure, that kind of look appeals to all the perverts who like to fap to pixels instead of just watching porn, but giving the MK girls dignity and personality would set the game apart from EVERY other fighter that does the exact same slutty approach.

True, true. I wouldn't mind, Mileena's costume is whatever to me. Since I normally play as female characters mostly I was hoping for something a little better than her alternate deception and armageddon costume remake. I would have prefered a remake of her original costume from decpetion and armaggedeon.

Actually, I'd rather get caught off-guard then just know everything about the game, right off the bat.
As far as Fatalities go, I agree 100% with you.
I do want to know the rest of the characters making it into MK 9.
I would hate to get the game, only to find out that an MK 1 or MK II character has been left out.

im sorry but i am indeed a little bit worried. I know people dont like comparing mk9 to mvc3 but that game basically released all info of how the game worked, story details and tons of gameplay footage 2 months ago. Now the game comes out next month and i've watched tons of gameplay video for that game months ago and i am still extremely hyped for the game.

Capcom had people play the game and made changes based on fan feedback. I havent heard of that from mk9 yet. I'm begging to think ns is not confident enough to release competitive gameplay videos that shows off the fighting mechanics like mvc3 has. I am very worried.
