I'm sure this is beating a dead horse, but I know this is not normal. Specially with the way Netherrealm studios has given out their info. It's consistent. Think of it like a movie release

the hyphons between them represent the time between release. Obviously not entirely accurate or to scale, but the principle of "leading up to" is their, and has been that way for gaming for decades. So why is it now MK is inconsistent?
Back in E3 of 2010, we got LOADS of information, gameplay videos, commentaries. Then we went to Pax 2010...and it was pretty much identical to E3. More gameplay videos, not much new announced. The game was just under a years away from release at that point. So it's pretty normal the amount of info we received.
We are now in 2011, and still no definitive release date is set for the game, despite it being announced for April. Also, ontop of the lack of release date, info coming out of nether studios and employees is next to nothing. We are getting basic wallpapers and pictures. The most info we have gotten has been LEAKED by mistake on the website and saved by the users.
So what gives? For a game that's so hyped up as MK9, i'd expect a little more information by now considering it's 90 days away (give or take a few) from release.
They've yet to confirm OFFICIALLY over half the roster, gameplay vids are scarce to come by. Raiden was announced over a half a year ago and a single gameplay video of him is yet to be seen.
I'm all for secrecy in Mortal Kombat, it's been the games coolest thing since inception, of finding all the hints, but this is mildly overboard now. It's sad to the point people try to decipher the outline of SZ's body widget and say "it's noob! not SZ!!!on1!!!". and trying to see Lui Kangs shadow. Guess what, it's 110% chance Lui's in it, so no point in "looking for the shadow!!" ... but we do it anyways cause we've gotten NO info lately.
I used to work for Day of Defeat (halflife mod before Valve bought the rights) and i'll tell you one thing, from a game dev stand point, it's usually a bad sign when there's this much lack of information and gameplay videos/ss's. Let alone announcements for BASIC characters that are guaranteed to be in the game.
Also, the "noob saibot widget"... it's a template image for a ninja, there must always be a template for things like this, specially considering the game has many ninjas.
Either way, I think NRS is dropping the ball on information the last while. Kinda makes me think "what could possibly be going wrong they haven't been able to show gameplay for already announced characters, and won't announce over half the roster?"
but just my 2 cents, dead horse is dead
