PC version of Mortal Kombat 9...

It's all because of the lack of a PC version of MK9 is what makes people go crazy into finding ways to mod the HOME console version of the game.

This is getting strange: the MK9 application on Steam gets updates every day so an announcement is only a formal thing now. However it seems that though everyone knows it's coming WB still wants to hold out until Injustice releases.

Probably going to port MK9 first, you know, a decent port for a game which was released years ago...Try out the market, see how it goes...

Then, when Injustice hits PC too, it's going to be like "hey, we did mk9 on pc, it was good by our standards, here's injustice!" And what will be given instead is a shoddy console port...

Happened so many times now, not naming and shaming.

I keep wondering if the fact that those Steam achievements and app were uploaded even means something credible. I don't have any experience with Steam, so, if someone else is more adept with that network, out of observations, how long does it USUALLY take from the moment the app is created on the Steam database, to the actual release/official announcement of the game? Is it a rare occurrence that the app is created, updated regularly, and still, the game keeps being unannounced/never makes it to live?

Also, wouldn't it be plausible that this scenario with Amazon listing the game and then removing it, and then a few days later that Steam app popping up, is just a cleverly designed trolling campaign by Warner/NRS? As if saying "yeah, that's right, PC monkeys, we're gonna give you hope and we'll keep feeding it for a while, so we can enjoy watching you refresh that TRMK topic/Google search string every day"? I doubt Steam would agree to participate in such bullshit, and I really believe that the app, and the fact that it's already filled with named achievements, means in fact something positive. Something credible and real. Amazon listing was like, "meh, just a mistake". That Steam app though, is still here, is being updated, and it keeps our hopes up.

What do you guys think?

it was probably two days ago, cause it's kinda natural that no updates are posted during the weekend. we'll see if they pick up tomorrow.

I know. What does that mean then:

"Last Record Update 2 days ago (April 5, 2013 – 20:07:50 UTC)"

It was added 2 months ago, but that was just the entry. The achievement list has probably been updated in segments of several updates since then.

my conversation on IRC with xPaw and Devin, some of the guys behind SteamDB.

"[20:02] <ionicle_> what would you guys say is a probable chance of a game to make it to live or at least an announcement, once it's been entered into the steam database, and it's had pretty regular updates and achievements added?
[20:02] <@johndrinkwater> a maybe
[20:03] <ionicle_> yeah its always a "maybe", though im trying to narrow it down a bit to a rough percentage of probability
[20:04] <@johndrinkwater> what game?
[20:04] <ionicle_> latest Mortal Kombat, it appeared on Amazon UK briefly, before being taken down
[20:04] <ionicle_> then the game schema popped up, with a lot of achievements added
[20:05] <+DevinWatson> Mortal Kombat = 99% Happening
[20:05] <@johndrinkwater> sounds like a fairly high chance then
[20:05] <ionicle_> indeed, thats what im hoping for
[20:05] <+DevinWatson> They've spent a lot of time integrating it into Steam
[20:05] <+DevinWatson> tim = money
[20:05] <+DevinWatson> time*
[20:06] <+DevinWatson> so they're obviously planning on releasing it
[20:06] <+DevinWatson> now if you're wondering about Halo
[20:06] <+DevinWatson> I'd say that's not happening
[20:06] <ionicle_> oh no, I already read about Halo
[20:06] <ionicle_> MS refuted the claims of that happening
[20:06] <+DevinWatson> They say a lot of things some true some not so true
[20:07] <ionicle_> been waiting for MK to happen for ages, and i had already given up hope completely
[20:07] <+DevinWatson> yeah whatever the release date was on amazon it's probably right
[20:08] <ionicle_> good to know Boon was just being a massive troll with his constant teasing for the PC fans of the game
[20:08] <+DevinWatson> Steam achievements are fairly late game in the development process for a port
[20:08] <ionicle_> yeah, even better, that would indicate that the game is approaching completion at least
[20:09] <+DevinWatson> unfortunately Valve patched the achievements api backend so no more leaks on that front
[20:09] <+DevinWatson> at least for now
[20:09] <ionicle_> yeah, xPaw told me about it
[20:10] <ionicle_> a person commenting on the topic of leaked steam achievements posted the following, regarding MK:
[20:10] <ionicle_> "I made an enquiry to Amazon regarding the legitimity of the Mortal Kombat item while its page was still available. After a while they checked with their "specialist team" and responded that, quoting, "...release is correct. The pre-order option will be made available at a later date." :) so, this tells that the page has been taken down temporarily until an official announcement which is great news in my opinion :)"
[20:10] <ionicle_> if thats true, yet another pointer in the direction of it happening after all"

That would mean the app was updated.

I dunno, it does seem that we might finally see MK9 on PC.

I'd feel pretty bummed that after all these years we get the game with no exclusive content though.

No way. As long as we get the komplete edition I'm straight.

Honestly, I could care less about whether it's komplete edition or not. Rain was cool but Skarlet and Kenshi were meh. And Freddy was just blech imo. I'm in this for the modding potential and the possibilities to add our own character models to the game. Do you realize how AWESOME that would be???

Another update on the app - 20 minutes ago. Lovely.

Freddy was a total commercial idiocy on NRS's behalf. Never should have been included, same with Kratos. Those ones have their own universes. They make totally no sense in the world of MK. Every one of the other three is awesome. Kenshi is epic!

Modding a game is not that easy. I've done a lot of modding for different games before, and let me tell you, if the developer won't release any sort of tools (I'm not even talking about SDK here), the modding possibilities are going to be very, very slim, e.g. simple texture or sound mods, aka meh for the most part.

Also, a simple port is not going to fix the issues with the netcode. They would need to actually fix it. And if they would've fixed it, then it would be on the consoles as a patch a long time ago.

been refreshing the Steamdb page all evening, updates have been ongoing nonstop, at least 6-7 times since i noticed the first update since 4 days ago.

they better dedicate some effort to not only porting the game, but fixing the netcode and making a proper PC version, not just a shitass port.

Well let's hope the devs behind the port are not the guys who did the PC port of Arcade Kollection.

If NRS are that oblivious and allow the PC version of MK to be blatantly soiled like those morons did with the Arcade Kollection, they deserve immediate bankruptcy. Regarding the PC version and the Aussie version going out at the same time, I don't think so. They haven't even announced it yet, and it's 11th April... That's less than 3 weeks remaining.

Can they do that? Release the game without any prior announcement? Isn't that kinda silly from a marketing point of view?
