The Grid Emulation Status

I so much want this game to be emulated so it is at least playable, ever since my local arcade got rid of it. I've been working on a practice design document for "The Grid: Second Season", to exercise my ability to create a game based off of existing IP. Maybe it'll happen someday, maybe it'll happen.

I played this game once in an arcade in New York years back but I have yet to see the game in any arcades anywhere. I love this game and NRS needs to put this game out again.

Gotta ask is there any updates about this? Feel free to check out Supermodel, it's a Model 3 emulator and it runs games like Jurassic Park The Lost World smoothly on my computer! AWESOME! :)

I haven't tried it in MAME in a while, last I checked Crusin Exotica worked but not The Grid. Both are on similar hardware so something was missing with The Grid. They haven't come back to this in a while.

Please, please, don't abandon this project. I find myself coming back to this forum since 2008, but it wasn't until now that i made an account to comment with.

Someone will surely pick it up some day, since it's a challenge and programmers like a challenge. If I had more free time I'd like to look into it myself but been way too busy to start to learn the deeper down mechanics of the MAME code base AND emulation.

There have been a few tweaks to the Zeus/Zeus 2 MAME drivers in the last year or so, so someone is still looking at it. Once Zeus 1 is tackled and optimized fully then I'd see them focusing on Zeus 2 to knock out Crusin' Exotica and The Grid support.

On that note I'm working on trying again to capture game footage directly from the board. I have a few bits of info that may help just need time to hook it all up.

Awesome!
:D
Thank you, Patrick!

I would like to try this game out, especially since I didn't hear about it until Deadly Alliance and since then have heard nothing but good stuff about it...

The game is definitely a ton of fun. I've often thought that someone with enough modding skills would be able to easily mod Quake3/2 to play exactly like The Grid. (I do not sadly) I'm surprised there hasn't been more people looking into getting it to work.

A few of us were doing that back then, a mod called The Grid Arena for Quake 3. I know The Shiny who posts here occasionally still has some stuff from it somewhere.

I was able to dig this up.

It isn't much, basically just Sarge from Quake with a Grid skin. We got most of the weapons working in Quake at one time (the Cannon ball was by far the coolest one). If I still have the source code, it would be on a zip disk somewhere!

Do you still have the mod?

do you have the soundtracks or something? :/

I haven't been able to locate the mod yet, but there is still hope I have it somewhere. I know I used to have original soundtrack files too, it looks like all I have now are some low quality wav rips from videos.

Low quality wav files:

Edit: I just noticed that all of these promo videos are already available on the TRMK GRID site

I know this is a super old thread, and we've been waiting for a long time. However, Mame .187, which is the current latest release. Seems super promising.
