The bots are taking over the forum!!!

I say something should be done about these bots.

They bring back very old topics, and are, well, annoying and unwanted.

Unfortunately, we can't do too much about it without Pat or Jeff around. All we can do is delete the shit and hope they stop.

Didn't even realize there were bots on here to begin with? I've seen tons of them on umk.com, spam, porn lol quite funny.

But it is sad if they join her just to do that crap...

How do these bots work? Some of them make fairly specific comments pertaining to MK etc. Admittedly I can see them being nerds who sit around on their computers getting paid to advertise semi-discreetly but isn't a bot an electronic entity? I don't see how they can make comments tailored to the threads and be bots.

Ok I cleaned out their signatures and banned four users.

Please alert me via e-mail or PM when these pop up.

You can tell by their signatures that have links to spam or other places to increase their Google Page Ranks.

Yeah...sadly that's a job for people to spread viruses and create spam all over the internet...

Excuse me for asking, but isn't the purpose of a signature to advertise a personal site, homepage, etc? Are they not intended to be the one place where a user can post a link to his forum or homepage ?

Yes but please note that these posters are very clearly just posting so that their advertisements can be seen. And they're not promoting their homepages or artwork or anything, they're being PAID to advertise completely unrelated materials and they add nothing to the forum. Advertisement without substance is not allowed on this forum.

One of them has a link to a porno site on it's sig. LOL!

i'd say LOL, but.... i'm hardly surprised. porn is so prominent they could almost call this thing we're using the XXXternet instead of the internet.

I have seen those 'bots' in some other threads and all I have to say is that they are intelligent and very well made for botes.

You could be right, but remember, we are in late 2008. We can do almost anything on a computer and internet. We probably can even download a personal grand-mother over some sites. 'Nuff said.

I'm guessing if something was wrong with Tim's trmk mods would have said something about it?

Porn bots aren't good though lol, if you click those at times they'll give you viruses like what happened with a friend of mine. He clicked something once and froze his PC....since it uploaded a virus onto his machine.

We allow you to have links to other sites in your profile signature. It's in our Forum Rules.

What I was talking about earlier was that the big tip off that these users are "bots" is by the content of their links in their signature. They're typically really obscure websites and nothing else describing their relevancy.

You can keep your links in your signatures here. We don't care as long as you're making meaningful contributions to the conversations here. So if you had them before and deleted them, thinking that we would ban you for having them, you're free to put them back in your signature.

Ohh, ok thanks that's nice to know : ) btw, is this a european MK site or american? I've noticed a good mix of both users on here.

Well, Jeff and Pat are American, so I guess that'd make the site American by default.
