Help a fighting game noob

The title pretty much says it. I never been that into fighting games but I’m starting to get into them. I only own two games tekken 5 and a used copy of soul caliber 2 I recently bought, and I will probably end up getting soul caliber 3 eventually. So anyone have any game recommendations or tips for some one new to the genre?

well since you posted on this specific forum, i will assume that your interested in mortal kombat. thus, no mortal kombat fan's collection can be quite complete without these three games- UMK3, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, and Mortal KOmbat Deception. mk deadly alliance and mk Armageddon are good but you don't really need them to get the most out of the mk series. UMK3 is a classic, and has several kinds of difficulty levels if your just starting. it has a lot of the favorite characters, and it'll probably serve for hours of fun. MKSM is a really awesome adventure game bursting with incredible fighting techniques, gameplay, and areas. it has liu kang, kung lao, scorpion and sub zero for adventure, and has even more unlockable for versus mode. adventure mode is crammed full with extras, unlockables, and probably more secrets and mysteries than any mortal kombat game ever made. i mean seriously, this game is literally bursting with secrets for us gamers to uncover. MK deception also has a nice adventure mode, as well as the classic fighting game arcade mode. the adventure mode also has some cleverly woven secrets and unlockables. if you don't have an old system for umk3 like a sega genesis or a super nintendo, than just get the DS version, the XBOx live version, or get MK Armageddon because it comes with it.

But yeah, I'd play MK, SF. Can't play fighters without playing the original MK's/SF's they're just classics
