It's out, so I'm downloading it as I type. 248MB and IIRC, only 720p  I guess MS took over that duty with UMK3 on the 360 since the file was much smaller.

No voice chat apparently, and the button layout cannot be customized. But it's the compression that's mind boggling here... Namco compressed the full arcade Dark Resurrection to mere 555MB at 1080p.

I'll post my impressions later.

Seems that the audio didn't get any compression, hence the larger file size. This is an arcade perfect emulation unlike the MAT2 versions, and the lobby system is comparable to UMK3's.. but not quite as good. You can't tell who you're playing with for one thing during a match, and like the arcade version, if they don't continue, you're stuck playing solo.

Infrastructure wise, it's good like UMK3 and I've already ran into someone with latency issues. But for $5, it's all good.

EDIT: Errr.. one more thing, the game runs at least at 1080i so it's almost safe to assume it's supporting 1080p as well. It's not upscaled since the current PS3 firmware still has the scaler disabled.

OK well you would think Sony would have it together and have this gam pushed out at midnight on the 12th but no. It comes out at least around 7pm eastern so that kinda sucked. The actually UI for starting the game could have looked nicer. The gameplay seems to be right on but it took me a couple of hours to really adjust to it since I play UMK3 alot on XBOX360 (My Name is Subzerox so look me up and we can fight). I only had a couple of games were it was laggy for a bit but then cleared up. I will say that MK2 has to be one of the best in the line until UMK3 came along or MK3 since the combo systems were introduced. 5 dollars it is worth it but afterawhile, your done and want to put it down. I also wish there was voice support.
Overall, this is good for owners of a PS3 and don't own a XBOX360 for the UMK3. If you own both, just stick with UMK3.

They update the PS store every Thursday at 6:00PM eastern, no exceptions. In fact, this one came out on time in Canada, while Tekken 5 was a day later.

Agreed on the UI, but that's a small gripe. I'm glad there is no voice support myself :p Though I don't like the fact that player names don't show up when playing a match. Infrastructure wise, it's exactly like UMK3 on the 360 (I have that too) so lag will happen if you have latency problems.

Emulation wise, it's perfect from the most part, but I experienced some music cuts like the MAT2 versions when the timer gets near zero on some stages, and halfway through in the arcade credits. Like UMK3, it seems that they remastered the audio.

Anyway, this IS MKII, so you'll have to take it or leave it. Yeah, it turns into a turtle fest but that's the game.

I find the file size surprising, there must be major changes to the game for the higher resolution the game runs at. The arcade resolution is much smaller and the game weighs in 16MB uncompressed. So they definately had to have some major graphics altered to make that resolution higher for HD. They probably scaled them up to larger size then cleaned them up instead of blowing the game up via a scaler.

My mistake initially, the game does support up to 1080p, so you're dead on. The current firmware STILL has the hardware scaler disabled, and I've been playing it at 1080i. The emulation is better than MAT2 but there are some flaws:

- No shadows in the dead pool stage. Luckily, that's the only visual hitch.
- The music cuts off when the timer hits 30. I noticed that too when I did the first part of the shatter fatality more than once in the wasteland. The quality of the audio is true to the arcade version, and somewhat cleaned up, but it's still mono and PCM.
- Like the MAT2 versions, the music cuts off halfway through the arcade credits.

My only gripe is that unlike UMK3, there is no support of multiple player tournament. It's only one on one.

Yeah that kinda sucks they should definitely add that in UMK3 im surprised they didn't and the 8 player tournament ......really could of had something there.

Yeah, and random select is there too. The pause button in this version is the select button, so everything works out just fine.
