Was Raiden supposed to be undead?

This was a question thats been in my head since the first time i playe MK2 in the arcades as a little kid. Because he looked alive in MK1 but in MK2 he had a pale, rotting look.

(Yes i know he is a elder god, but at least he should have a decent fresh body have)

He doesn't look pale and rotting to me. I mean, maybe his sprite is a tad gray but that's a color palette issue. His portrait looks plenty healthy.
